I know nothing about cars, but I enjoy LEGO and I enjoy building LEGO cars! I had bought a LEGO Bugatti Chiron set last year and finally had the chance to unbox and build it last week! As suggested by the LEGO set instructions, I listened to the LEGO Technic podcast as a soundtrack while building the set. #nerding The podcast shed light into the LEGO x Bugatti collaboration, and featured interviews from team members from both brands. You can listen to it here: https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/technic/bugatti-chiron/podcast
Here are some quick highlights/interesting facts:
Why the partnership? LEGO and Bugatti shared the same level of investment and passion into the quality of their brand.
LEGO’s motto: Only the best is good enough
Bugatti’s motto: If comparable…. It is no longer Bugatti
Even the audiences for both brands shared similarities. Some LEGO collectors buy one to set build, and one set as a collectible. Chiron owners also typically buy one car to drive and one as a collectible (keeping it at 0 mileage)
One episode of within the podcast series focused on the respective homes of Bugatti (Molsheim, France) and LEGO (Billund, Denmark), where Bugatti models are assembled, test-driven, and configured, and where LEGO sets are created. The team members from both brands shared a passion for the work they do, and their commitment to high standards for the brand.
LEGO had the challenge of using existing LEGO parts to replicate the smooth, sleek exterior and intricate gears/engines/cylinder within the car.
I think LEGO only creates a handful of new pieces per year, and the majority of the new pieces were created specifically for this Bugatti set.
On Bugatti and its shiny exterior: People see a reflection on a car and think it’s beautiful. Bugatti wanted to create an intriguing, reflective texture that would draw you into its surface.
